The Legacy Textbook, Principles in Agribusiness Management, is at the Printers!
A few years ago, I was invited to revise the popular, 30-year introductory agribusiness textbook, Principles in Agribusiness Management by James G. Beierlein, Kenneth C. Schneeberger, and Donald D. Osburn. I was both flattered and thrilled. Since 2014, the fifth edition has been the most recent edition available.
Until now. On Friday, July 25, Waveland Press, posted the Sixth Edition that includes Mark W. Jenner as an author. I am beyond excited!
In 2016, both James G. Beierlein and my doctoral advisor, Donald D. Osburn, passed away. I had just recently begun teaching introductory agribusiness at Greenville University. I had just completed three years in Extension with University of Missouri, where Ken Schneeberger was working in international programs in the Dean’s Office. We have been professional colleagues and at some point, Ken invited me to take the lead on the revision of the sixth edition.
There were more layers than that involved in getting it done, so of course it took a little longer to get to the release than any of us expected. But we all kept moving around the unexpected and now we are here!
I have had the privilege of working in multiple facets of the agricultural value chain over the last 45 years. I was able to bring all that I have learned to the rock-solid foundation laid by James Beierlein, Ken Schneeberger, and Don Osborn. A lot has changed over the course of the book’s success.
I have all the assignments and excursions that I used as I taught from the book for eight years at Greenville University. So the best of those will also make it into the instructor materials.
This project has been a nice summary of everything we know of agribusiness today. I am grateful to have had the chance to contribute.
Waveland Press is handling all the sales, so any inquiries on receiving copies and using it need to be directed to them at www.waveland.com.
