Community Biomass Inventories

  • In 2005, the State of Indiana, launched an innovative initiative to take a small rural Indiana town off of the traditional power grid using locally available biomass.  The project was named, BioTown, USA™.  It was the first biomass inventory conducted by Biomass Rules, LLC.  A brief overview of the project is still available on NBC’s website from July 2006.  ‘Biotown USA’ tries for all-renewable energy

  • The second biomass inventory was conducted for San Benito County, CA, Central Coast Recycling Market Development Zone biomass inventory on local energy use, available biomass fuels and emerging technologies.

  • The third biomass inventory, Mark Jenner assisted a much larger team through the California Biomass Collaborative at UC-Davis.  Here a Biomass Management Zone was established and a comprehensive biomass resource assessment and utilization analysis was conducted.  Biomass Management Zones and New Pathways to Bioenergy

Energy Values and BTU Conversion

  • The Basics of Biomass Rules Energy Values The Basics of Biomass Rules Energy Values – Commodity prices and relationships to traditional markets are all shifting in new ways. Biomass input energy values are combined with the best available, weekly market prices to look for new and emerging relationships…and to get used to looking at new relationships as they begin to become established.

  • Energy Value & Density Biomass feedstocks are not as dense as traditional solid and liquid fuels. Densities of the materials used in our energy values are presented here.
