Landfill Gas Utilization Project Operational, TN

Energy Systems Group, based in Evansville, IN cut the ribbon on the Johnson City, TN, project late last week. Methane from the landfill is processed through a membrane filtration system and piped for use at a local VA medical center.

Biobased Product Crop Selection, CA/PA

Ceres AND Rohm and Haas to study plant-based bioproducts. Funded by a $1.5 million research grant from the USDA, the three-year project will determine if energy crops planted for cellulosic ethanol could simultaneously produce methacrylate monomers, a key raw material used in the manufacture of many products including paint and coatings, building materials, and acrylic sheet and resins.

Unintended Side-Effects from Feeding DDGS to Cattle, MO

Ethanol byproducts could increase polio in cattle. Elevated levels of sulfer in DDGS combined with elevated sulfur levels in the water, like in Western Missouri, and conditions will be right for increased polio in cattle.
