LA looks to grow more sweet sorghum for ethanol production. Iowa State University research shows sweet sorghum can produce more than six times the ethanol, about 3,037 gallons per acre, than the 450 gallons per acre produced from corn.

Biodiesel Plant Receives Zoning Board Recommendation, IL
The Quincy/Adams County, IL Enterprise Zone Board voted unanimously recommend the expansion of the Enterprise Zone to accommodate a planned 60 million gallon biodiesel plant. The Enterprise Zone crosses county lines so approval for the biodiesel plant must still pass two county boards and two City Councils.

Virginia Tech researcher examines polymers for plastic created with poultry feathers in Blacksburg, VA. He is investigating the properties of polymers created from poultry feather keratin. The protein, keratin, is a major component of hair, nails, and feathers and makes them hard and strong.

The CT Clean Energy Fund has chosen 11 ratepayer-subsidized alternative fuel projects. Officials of the fund expect about 85 MW will ultimately be produced by projects. The program also provides a premium of as much as 5.5 cents per kilowatt hour on the power the plants produce.
